What is FAQ?
FAQ
is an acronym for Frequently Asked Questions.
TOP
What constitutes a
small
website?
For purposes of
pricing a site
we will be referring to a small site as a collection of five or
fewer pages. A page should scroll no more than 2 to 3 times the
height of the browser window.
TOP
How do I find a place
to put my website?
If your page is a
hobby page or homepage you may consider using space that is
possibly offered by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). If your
page is a business page you should consider a domain name and a
web host for your site. If you are in between we may be able to
host your site for you. Currently we do not host other domain
names.
TOP
I already have a
homepage, can't you just add to it?
There may be
considerable difference between the page you have and the page you
desire. Frequently sharper, faster loading photo images and clip
art can be created to replace the ones you have. Generally
rewriting a page takes more hours than creating a page from the
beginning.
TOP
What is a domain
name, and do I need one?
A domain name is a
title or business name for a website that is assigned to a
constant Internet address. It is registered with InterNic and as
long as your pay the reservation fees you can retain that domain
address even if you move to other web hosts.
TOP
I have a scanner, can I just send you scans?
In order to achieve
clear images, appropriate color, and the smallest possible file
sizes we use particular settings for scanning. As long as you
comply with the specifications we require we will accept
client-scanned images. However we do not teach scanning. There is
more to scanning than running the machine and software.
TOP
What is graphics
compression?
To compress graphics
is to reduce the number of colors and/or the pixels per inch to
reduce the file size of photographic and clip art. Typical
graphics for the web utilize JPEG
compression and GIF palette reduction.
TOP
What are banners used for and do I need one?
Banners are small
graphics that advertise your site or someone else's site and are
generally used for advertising campaigns. Some sites promise to
bring you traffic if you support their banners by display them on
your site. We advise that you research these promises carefully.
Another use for small banners is when exchanged with other sites
who wish to link with you. These banners are frequently an
appealing way to bring traffic to your site.

I want a
shopping cart for selling my products on the
Internet. How much does it cost?
Shopping cart programs
vary from free to rather expensive. Some shopping cart providers are
very reasonably priced and some act as the middle-man, taking on the
expenses, reserving charge back funds based on your sales volume and
charging a flat percentage of your sales. This type of cart may minimize
your start-up costs and reduce your risks.
TOP
My small company
cannot afford a secured shopping cart program, what alternatives
are there?
Some shopping carts
are based on a percentage of your sales. No sales - no expense. Cash,
checks and charge cards are traded as a result of the Internet everyday.
We have a number of clients who have success with printable order forms,
created like web pages for phone orders, mail in or charge card sales.
Contact information is listed for their customers.
TOP
What types of
updates
and maintenance might my website need?
Websites that
never change don't get return traffic and don't get referred to
your visitors' friends. Old pages also fall out of the search
engines. If your site is product or art related as your product
line or inventory changes, so should your website. Sales,
contests, give-a-ways and coupons are all applicable to the web
just as they attract customers in shopping malls. There are
many things on your site that will require updating and
improvement as time goes on.

What exactly are
Meta tags and do I need them? Why do I need
them on all my pages?
Meta
information (tags) are special codes provided for search engine
spiders that scour the web for information to collect and index.
Special tags are created to assist these spiders in properly
indexing the content of your page. Not all search engines use Meta
tags but frequently they are the key that makes your site stand
out in the search engine ranks and thereby brings you added
traffic. Each of your pages has unique content and
your meta tags should reflect those unique items.
TOP
What does it
mean to submit a site to a search engine,
don't they just find you?
The web
supports millions of websites and each search engine has its own
rules for how it collects data about your site. These rules change
frequently. As sites are created, if they are submitted to search
engines, the search engine will either index the site immediately
or it may take several months on a waiting list to get indexed and
become part of the possible returns surfers are looking for every
day. If you wait for them to find you, they may never find
you.
TOP
If my site is
submitted
to a
search engine will it have to be done again
later?
The workings of
each search engine are unique. Some have small databases for
information storage and routinely remove older dated material and
add newer dated material. If the server on which your site resides
"goes down" or is unable to display your site for even a
short time, a search engine may be spidering your site and when it
finds your site is "Not Found" they remove it from the
database. To them it no longer exists.
